Today, on International Women’s Day, we are sharing the incredible work of Girls Inc., a North American organization that inspires girls to be Strong Smart and Bold. Working in partnership with schools, Girls Inc. focuses on the development of the whole girl. She learns to value herself, take risks, and discover and develop her inherent strengths. The combination of long-lasting mentoring relationships, a pro-girl environment, and research-based programming equips girls to navigate gender, economic, and social barriers, and grow up healthy, educated, and independent. Informed by girls and their families, Girls. Inc. also advocates for legislation and policies to increase opportunities and rights for all girls.
Backed by an impressive celebrity cabinet – and even more impressive outcome stats – Girls Inc. recognizes that intervention through a variety of programs helps to create a stronger generation of girls and women. In particular, we love their Healthy Living programming, which aims to increase girls’ levels of physical activity so that they view their bodies more positively.
On a local level, relate supports our Girls Inc. of Halton chapter – led by an incredible team that is growing their impact rapidly. Starting this spring, Girls Inc. of Halton will partner with the Jays Care Foundation to run the Girls at Bat program – a program that relate is a proud sponsor of. We know that girls who participate in sport are more confident, and enjoy benefits that extend beyond the field of play. Sport has the power to advance the position of women within our communities and globally – and today, on International Women’s Day, we appreciate organizations like Girls Inc. that are doing their part to inspire all girls and women to be Strong Smart and Bold.
